#ThrowbackThursdayBookstagram: The Beach House
Happy Thursday! This week features THE BEACH HOUSE by @janegreenauthor.
I’m pretty certain I read this book while nursing Melina (who was born the summer after this released), so while I did enjoy it—my Goodreads account tells me so—I don’t remember all the details of it now. But Jane Green is a prolific author, and I’ve also liked several of her other books (Bookends, Jemima J, etc.). So if you’re looking for a new author to try on your trip to the, er, beach, you might just check out the works of Jane Green.
Green gives us the story of Nan Powell, “a free-spirited, sixty-five-year-old widow who’s not above skinny-dipping in her neighbors’ pools when they’re away and who dearly loves her Nantucket home.” That home is Windermere, and when Nan begins to have trouble making ends meet, she decides to make some income by renting out the home’s rooms. Cue the eccentric characters, which include Daniel, Daff, and Nan’s son, Michael. Of course, each character has a different story, but each of them is searching for something different. The question is, will each character find what they need? These days, we talk a lot about “found family,” and I think this book fits that bill.
