Sunday Musings

A new website means a new way of doing things. Which isn’t what this habitual person likes to think about. New ways? I might only be in my forties, but honestly, I’ve been set in my standard protocols since I was born.

Okay, there might have been that period of time right after the doctor informed me that I was having twins that I—for too brief of a time—allowed the wind to take over my life. But once we’d gotten past the twins (do you ever get past any of your children?), I fell right back into my old ways.

Thank goodness I have some experience with WordPress already, so adding new blog posts isn’t going to be too much trouble. But, the process is just different enough that I need to get used to it. And that gets in the way of my creativity.

You know what else gets in the way of my creativity? Watching my neighbors have a party, but no one is wearing a mask. And knowing that my Black friends don’t have the same rights as I do. That my LGBTQ+ friends and family are fighting for their rights too. That just the idea of an American flag causes my gut to churn with anger. That sometimes, out here in this little microcosm, I feel so alone in my beliefs, my morals, and my values.

These are the things I think about on Sunday. These are the things I think about the rest of the days of the week too. And while the overall weight of these issues barrels against me and stifles some of my creativity, I’m going to keep plodding ahead. I’ve always said it’s the small things that make a difference. A smile here, a (virtual) hug there. A spoken word of support when no one else bothers. A firm commitment to making the world a better place. That’s my goal and always has been.

It might take me a while to get back to changing the world with words of kindness, but I’ll get there someday. Hopefully soon.

I agree with you… small things can make BIG differences!! I like your site. Working on getting back into not just a writing routine, but being a part of the writing community. A little coffee shop just opened up three blocks from my house, I think that will help 🙂 Perhaps I’ll start another blog… perhaps not. Either way, looking forward to having a little more of your writing in my life again!
